  3. Is my amount of disk space or data transfer going to be enough to support my web site?
If you are planning a web site that produces high bandwidth requirements, such as serving videos, etc., please contact WebTent for special pricing. Otherwise, depending on number of images or sizes of those images and an esimate of 5-50 KB for each web page you plan to publish, choose the plan that suits your needs. Our experience has shown that the amount of data transfer allocated for each of WebTent package offered will be more than sufficient for the average web site. Depending on the quantity and sizes of your files, this could support many thousands of hits per month. Note that only 1-2% of business/commerce customers have exceeded 500 MB of data transfer per month. If you feel your web site will exceed the allowed monthly traffic or disk space, just let us know and we'll try to make special arrangements. The quota allowances are merely to avoid users from serving other web hosting clients from their WebTent space.

  4. How do I publish my web site?
To publish your web site pages, images or other files, you will want to use software capable of File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Please note that by contact WebTent support, we will make every effort to assist you with publishing web site files and even offer pointers to information available on the web, just ask. However, we do not support the software you use to publish your web site files, you will need to obtain that support from the manufacturer's web site. We recommend the same software that we use ourselves and have the most knowledge of it's usage. It is one of the most popular on the web, Adobe Dreamweaver.

  16. I can receive email, but cannot send while I am connected to a public WiFi network where outgoing SMTP port 25 is blocked. How do I send email?
In today's world, many public locations with public WiFi, such as hospitals, hotels and airports, block port 25 to deter the sending of unsolicited commercial email (UCE, or spam). It is even becoming common practice for some ISP's to block port 25 for these reasons if you're not using their outgoing SMTP server, such as your own domain server. No one wants to update their outgoing SMTP address everytime they switch networks.

When you find you cannot send email when using your own WebTent hosted domain (i.e.: mail.example.com) as your outgoing SMTP mail server on a public network, try setting your Outgoing SMTP port to 587, our submission port, but authentication is required. Make sure your email program is set to authenticate when sending email using port 587, using the same credentials your POP or IMAP connection is using to receive email.

  17. I keep getting Unsolicited email (Spam) even after I've told the WebTent Mailguard these types of messages are Spam, how do I block?
If you continue to receive Spam after reporting as such in the WebTent Mailguard, do not process new Spam in Mailguard and forward the entire message as received to support@webtent.net. Be sure to leave the message in the Mailguard so we can review.

  18. WebTent scans our company email and forwards directly to our own in-house mail server and we keep getting Unsolicited email (Spam), but we cannot find the messages WebTent Mailguard, how do we block?
If you're receiving Spam on your own internal network and cannot find those messages in the mail cache of WebTent Mailguard, then your network is probably being attacked directly. Since you should only be receiving mail from WebTent, have your IT staff block all incoming traffic on port 25 (SMTP) except traffic coming from WebTent. Contact WebTent for a list of approved networks or for more information.

Be aware that blocking this port will also block remote users that use your internal mail server for sending mail. In that case, you can consider establishing a submission port for those users or subscribing to WebTent SMTP services, contact our Sales department for more information.

  19. Why do I always get a security warning when accessing my control panel or other WebTent web sites?
To avoid certificate warnings when accessing these web site, install the WebTent CA certificate into your browser certificates as a Trusted Certificate. By doing this, you are telling your web browser to trust WebTent web sites for which we have issued a secure certificate for encrypted communications. If wanted, our Certificate Revocation List and other certificates issued by our certificate authority are available in the WebTent Root Certificate Authority.

  20. I am receiving an email message saying my account is over quota, what should I do?

If you use WebTent webmail to manage your inbox and other folders, you should login to your webmail and remove any messages you no longer need to free space. Be sure you empty your Trash and check other folders such as your Sent folder.

If you use POP/IMAP to connect to your mailbox, be sure your email program is not allowing the build-up of messages on our server over time filling your mailbox. When using POP, check that you do *not* have it setup to 'Leave a copy on the server'. If you connect only with your phone or other IMAP connection, be sure you are removing your messages from the server. You can use WebTent webmail to manage your mailbox online and remove messages.

Your designated site administrator can login to your control panel to view all quotas and current disk usage. After login, click on Usage Information under the Site Management section of the control panel. Then click Disk to see your current usage for the entire account as well as each users account and logs. If you do not remember the link to your control panel or webmail, you can use our Site/User Management tool. Contact support for help with the link, if you have forgotten your user login or need to acquire more space.

  21. How to configure your PDA or mobile phone to use Z-Push?

Mobile data synchronization is becoming increasingly important for many people, and various standards have arisen to perform this two-way copying 'over-the-air'. The most important platforms that can do wireless synchronisation are ActiveSync that is used to communicate with Exchange Server and Research-in-Motion's BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). Both solutions require proprietary server-side software from the vendor, therefore limiting the use of PIMs (personal information managers) to either wired synchronization or irritating 3rd-party synchronizers requiring the installation of client software on the PDA.

This is where Open source Z-Push comes in; it is an implementation of Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol which is used 'over-the-air' for multi platform active sync devices, including Windows Mobile and active sync used on Apple's iPhone, Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones. Open source Z-Push enables any PHP-based groupware package to become fully syncable with any ActiveSync-compliant device.

Z-Push works with all ActiveSync compatible mobile phones:
    • Windows Mobile 2003, 5 and 6
    • iPhone (with firmware 2.0 and above)
    • Nokia E and N series
    • Sony Ericsson M600, P990, W950
    • Palm Treo 700, 650, 680 and Palm Pre (with firmware 1.1 and above)
    • All ActiveSync compatible PDAs
    • Generelly all Windows Mobile 2003, 2005 and 6.0 handhelds.

A working internet connection to your Z-Push enabled server is necessary.

    • Configure your iPhone to use a new email account
    • Select Exchange as server

If you want to use SSL:
    • Email-Address: your email address
    • Server: your.server.com:81
    • Domain: leave empty
    • Username: your username
    • Password: your password
    • Use SSL: Enabled
    Settings for non-SSL:
    • Email-Address: your email address
    • Server: your.server.com:444
    • Domain: leave empty
    • Username: your username
    • Password: your password
    • Use SSL: Disabled

    Caveats:
Sync of calendar and address book may or may not work, but email mostly does. I encountered some problems with being unable to delete messages from my inbox. To fix this I had to do login to that mailbox once with either RoundCube or Squirrelmail (or any IMAP client!), which created some missing folders ("Drafts". "Sent Messages", "Trash").

Afterwards that seemed to work as well.
